Human-Environment Interactions in the Deep Human Past

This seminar series covers the way humans shaped their environments and expanded their niche in deep time, considering the societal and ecological feedbacks and their significance for the Roots of the present day Anthropocene Era. The series covers both multidisciplinary case studies, as well as applied methods to give a rounded understanding of key emerging research themes, and how these questions are addressed. You will be introduced to island ecosystems, African rainforests, and Arabian deserts among other biomes connected to the deep human past. You will also learn about different statistical methods of analysis for climate and ecosystems, as well as the fundamentals of geochronology, zooarchaeology, and palynology for reconstructions of past human environments and their temporal contexts. Together, these lectures will enable you to develop a strong grasp of the cutting-edge of research concerned with understanding the ‘ecological modernity’ of our species.

Thursdays 2pm, 1 hour slot with time for questions
